One kind of virtual pet is an online pet. These virtual pets live on websites, sometimes your own and sometimes within a setting. Some of them require food and other sorts of care. If not properly fed or cared for, the owner may lose points or the pet may even die. Some virtual pets are meant to be played with within virtual worlds online, where there is an entire realm dedicated to virtual enjoyment.
Another virtual pet is software based. It is created through a program installed on your computer, and similarly to the online pet, is interacted with and cared for via a computer. Right there on your screen you can feed it, play with it, and watch it grow.
Within these types of virtual pets there are unlimited pet options. From regular animals and creatures based on real life ones, to mystical and fantasy creatures and characters. There are also options for creating your very own breed, as well as breeding your pet with someone else’s to create a new breed. With ever advancing technology, the options for virtual pets are also getting wider. The choice to settle for a classical pet or delve into a world of cross-breeding is yours and yours alone.
Another form of virtual pet is the handheld kind, sometimes coming on a keychain or other sort of portable device. They are also made in larger scales, taking on different forms and shapes. These virtual pets come in many degrees of intelligence, some with simple controls, others highly advanced with a variety of features.
